Is the Bay Area ready for its morning McLatte? / McDonald's to debut new cafe this week
This article outlines McDonald's new plan to open "McCafe's" - the McDonald's answer to Starbuck's. They are opening a couple in the Bay Area to test the concept in the U.S., and then plan to roll it out across the country. McCafe's have already been completely realized in Australia and New Zealand. Just what we need -- another sterile, non-thinking, cookie cutter coffee concept to drown out the local coffee makers.
If you live in the Bay Area, and even have the slightest urge to test out this new McDonald's concept, PLEASE realize that you are being watched carefully, and that your dollars spent at a McCafe will equal a positive vote for McDonald's that they are moving in the right direction. If they receive enough positive votes, then they will be infecting the entire country with their coffee concept.
"Let's go to Starbuck's tonight, Marge."
"No, I would rather go to a McCafe..."

i like how mark morford of sfgate.com puts it in reference to this article: mcdonald's sucks all joy from foccacia
"in which the garbage-food leviathan will stop at nothing to drain the soul of the beleagured american consumer."
